Strictly is rigged, claims dancer Ola

- By Sam Creighton TV and Radio Reporter

IT attracts millions of viewers eager to see which celebrities can prove their prowess on the dance floor.

But it appears that the scores on Strictly Come Dancing may not be quite what they seem, as a string of the show’s own dancers have claimed the judges’ decisions are ‘rigged’.

A number of professionals alleged that the judges exercise double standards, giving higher marks to their favourite celebrities even if they make mistakes. It was also claimed that the scores can be ‘scripted’ to fit in with the characters of the judges, and that those taking part in the Strictly live tour have their scores boosted to make them more popular.

Professional dancer Ola Jordan, who is leaving the BBC show after the current series, has suggested that the judges change their scores in an attempt to keep certain couples in the show.

She told The Sun the judging panel’s scores do not reflect the true dancing abilities of the celebrities.

Other dancers have come forward to say they too think the marking does not reflect real dancing talent. A dancer working on the show, who asked not to be named, said: ‘The judges will mark one celebrity down for sloppy foot work and then let another one get away with it.’

A BBC spokesman said: ‘Any suggestion that the scores are “fixed” is nonsense. Each judge scores each dance independently, based on its merits and in their expert opinion.’

This weekend’s show saw singer Jamelia sent home.
