Outfoxed? No, just hungry for adventure

- By Rachel Watson

WHEN it came to sneaking past the lunchtime queues of hungry customers this fox seemed to have a cunning plan.

But the youngster’s high jinks soon made it the centre of attention as it was spotted running along a narrow ledge above a Pizza Hut branch in Argyle Street, Glasgow, yesterday.

Worried for its safety, shoppers tried to coax the animal down from its precarious perch.

Eventually, it plucked up the courage to jump into the street and hid under a bus in nearby Union Street before making its escape. One Pizza hut staff member, who asked not to be named, said: ‘We have no idea where he came from, he was just running along the ledge.’

Scottish SPCA animal rescue officer Jan Toraman said: ‘I was called to an unusual rescue when a young fox was spotted on the ledge of a building on Argyle Street, Glasgow.

‘This certainly was a very strange sight and a large crowd had gathered to take a look. I think it’s possible the fox got into one of the buildings on the street and made its way out on to the ledge from there.’

Among the 150 or so bystanders who had gathered, a woman sporting dyed blue hair was credited with helping to encourage it down.

One Twitter user Teacakeman said: ‘Argyle St comes to a halt as blue-haired woman talks fox down from Pizza Hut fascia.’

Polly O’Connor joked: ‘Meanwhile, in central Glasgow, Fantastic Mr Fox falls foul of Pizza Hut’s dress code and attempts to sneak in.’

Rufus Halfpenny added: ‘Either he was a new topping, or trying to skip the buffet queue.’
