- Daily Mail Reporter

DETECTIVES have arrested a man in connection with the death of a young woman.

Officers were called to an address in the south side of Glasgow around 5pm on Wednesday where they discovered the body of Katy Rourke.

The 25-year-old, who was originally from Broughty Ferry, Dundee, worked for P&O Cruises Australia.

Police Scotland were yesterday conducting inquiries near the flat in Minto Street, Govan.

Detective Chief Inspector Allan Burton said: ‘Officers have been conducting door-to-door inquiries and we are gathering and reviewing CCTV footage to gain additional information as part of this ongoing investigation.

‘A young woman has lost her life and significant efforts are being made to locate the person responsible. If anyone has any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, please do pass it on to police. Any small piece of information could prove vital in this murder inquiry.’

Police last night said a postmortem examination would be carried out.

Forensic experts wearing white suits were seen entering and leaving the close at the property yesterday. Before news broke of her death, friends had expressed concerns for Miss Rourke.

On Facebook, Rebecca McNeill made an appeal for information, saying: ‘Hi everyone, if anyone has heard or seen Katy please get in touch!’

But as news broke yesterday, social media users expressed their sorrow. Chris Morris said: ‘I used to work with her. She was a very bright, funny and lovely person, devastated to hear of this.’

Emma Brown wrote: ‘Rest in peace Katy, such a beautiful girl with so much to live for.’

Images of Miss Rourke on her social media pages show her travelling the world, from the South Pacific Islands to Australia, as well as spending time with relatives and friends.

The family of Miss Rourke, a former pupil of Grove Academy, Broughty Ferry, have been informed of her death but did not wish to comment yesterday.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: ‘The family has requested they are allowed to grieve in private at this time.’

Last night, police said a 26year-old man had been arrested in connection with the death and was being held in custody.

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

The man is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court tomorrow.
