Making a move
This New Year could be a great time for a fresh start, says Jenny Shields
THERE’S nothing quite like a New Year to reflect, reassess – and maybe embark on something life-changing. And if it’s a new property you are looking for, Rockpool House near Strontian is just the sort of place that offers all sorts of opportunities.
For a start it is well away from the hustle and bustle. For anyone seeking a quieter life, there are not many locations that are as wild, remote and undisturbed yet not completely cut off from the wider world.
The Ardnamurchan peninsula is the most westerly arm of the British Isles, with access to this unspoiled land limited to a single-track road. However, Fort William, Inverness-shire, is less than an hour’s drive away.
This stunning property on the shores of Loch Sunart was completed in 2007 and features not only the principal house, but a double garage which has been converted into a workshop/studio with a selfcontained apartment above.
This opens up endless possibilities. The apartment, which features a large open-plan sitting/dining room with kitchen, plus a double bedroom and bathroom, could be used as a holiday let or a space for dependent relatives.
Rockpool House itself has been designed with lots of large doubleglazed windows to garner every bit of light and maximise the wonderful views. The house has a good mix of formal and informal space, with the hub of the property being the large kitchen, complete with pantry, larder and utility room.
There is a study, large reception hall, a formal dining room and a sitting room with French doors to the garden. This floor also has a bathroom and shower room. On the first floor, the broad galleried landing with double height windows overlooking the loch can be used as a second sitting room.
There are four en suite bedrooms, and the present owners run a successful B&B business.
Offers over £499,000 to Robb Residential.
