Rangers hold talks to sign Accrington midfielder­s

RANGERS have opened talks to land Accrington Stanley duo Josh Windass and Matt Crooks on pre-contract agreements — sparking a Twitter outburst from the English club’s owner.

Businessma­n Andy Holt, who took a majority shareholdi­ng at Accrington in October, revealed the approach as he hit out at cross-border transfer rules.

Both players are out of contract at the end of the season. Rangers would have to pay training compensati­on as they are both only 21 — provided that the League Two outfit have offered them equal or better terms than their existing deals.

Windass, son of former Aberdeen striker Dean, rejected a new contract earlier this season. The attacking midfielder, watched by Arsenal scouts this term, has also been linked with interest from several English clubs.

But Ibrox boss Mark Warburton hopes to fend off those rivals by tying up advance deals for Windass and fellow midfielder Crooks.

Holt, though, did not hold back in voicing hi s displeasur­e at t he developmen­ts.

‘I have been informed today that Rangers are talking to Josh and Crooksey about a move from the end of the season,’ he tweeted.
