The mystery of Sienna’s faltering film company

-

One person who was no doubt happier than most to celebrate the dawn of a new year is actress Sienna Miller, for whom 2015 was something of an annus horribilis.

First, she split with her fiance of four years, actor Tom Sturridge, who is also the father of her three-year-old daughter, Marlowe.

Then her star turn in Johnny Depp film Black Mass was left on the cutting room floor, despite her spending hours perfecting a Boston accent for the role.

Sienna’s next film, Burnt, with Bradley Cooper, flopped at the box office and, to cap it all off, recently filed accounts for her film production company, Double Games Ltd, indicate the firm’s finances are equally depressed.

The accounts, for the year ending January 2015, show Double Games, of which Miller is a director alongside her childhood friend and publicist Tori Cook, has amassed debts of £35,665 and contains almost 50 per cent less cash than the previous year (£1,830 down from £3,355).

It is unclear whether Double Games, which describes its nature of business as ‘Motion picture production activities’, has actually been involved in the production of any films.

Last november, Miller told a newspaper: ‘I like the idea of starting to make things, maybe producing a little bit.’ She no doubt hopes to have more success behind the camera than in front of it. You can’t really blame her, after she was snubbed for a Best Supporting Actress nomination at last year’s Oscars for her role in American Sniper, despite her co-star Bradley Cooper being nominated.

Perhaps the clue to the company’s less than stellar finances is in the name. Miller once explained what ‘double games’ means in an interview: ‘We go and have a boozy lunch — we call it double games, like when you’re at school. Sometimes it turns into speech day, which is a write-off.’

Much like 2015, no doubt.
