Riddle of bones at golf course
POLICE yesterday finished their search for human remains after a skull was found in the grounds of a £4million Edinburgh mansion.
Specialist officers searched land as well as a pond on the 22-acre estate of Gogar Mount House, on Gogarstone Road.
They also scoured the course at nearby Gogarburn Golf Club, where other skeletal remains were discovered.
A tenant in the mansion, once owned by Drambuie chairman Mary MacKinnon, found the skull on Saturday afternoon.
Three of the 12 holes on the golf course were closed yesterday and a white forensics tent was set up, within view of the busy A8 road to Edinburgh Airport.
The search ended at 1pm yesterday. Police Scotland said it was not yet possible to give details about the remains.
A spokesman added: ‘A detailed forensic examination is now under way to establish the full circumstances surrounding this, and further updates will be provided when available.’
The six-bedroom mansion was sold for £4million a decade ago. In recent years it has been available to rent for £4,000 a month.
