Ebola returns to Sierra Leone

-

A WOMAN’S body has tested positive for ebola in Sierra Leone the day after the outbreak in west Africa was declared over.

The World Health Organisation said the outbreak had officially ended on Thursday after no new cases emerged in Liberia.

It had been at least two weeks since ebola had been seen in neighbouring Guinea or Sierra Leone.

The three countries were most affected by the world’s worst ebola epidemic that began two years ago.

Nearly 4,000 people had died before Sierra Leone was declared free of the disease on November 7. The latest death was of a 22-year-old who came from the northern Kambia district.

Ebola has killed more than 11,300 people, mostly in west Africa, since it emerged at the end of 2013.
