Halliday: Hibs should worry

- By JOHN GREECHAN

RANGERS star Andy Halliday has hit back at weeks of Hibs’ taunting — by claiming the Easter Road side are now the ones who should be fretting about the Championship title race. Responding to repeated suggestions that the league leaders would be looking over their shoulders at the hard-chasing Hibees, Halliday — who knows that something has to give when secondplaced Falkirk welcome the

Edinburgh club tomorrow — said: ‘Fair play to Hibs, they’re obviously playing well. ‘But they’re the ones who have to worry about us — because they are playing catch-up. ‘Like I said, I can’t give them enough credit. They are picking up a lot of results. ‘But if we keep picking up enough points in the league, we will look after ourselves. ‘Neither Hibs nor Falkirk have been dropping many points — but at least one of them has to drop something when they meet this weekend. ‘Hopefully, if we do our job on Saturday, that will create a bit of an extra gap between us. ‘But I can’t give enough credit to both teams. They’ve both won a lot of games this year. ‘Falkirk beat us last month. They are obviously going to be tough. ‘Hopefully, we keep picking up points ourselves and look for a slip from them somewhere. ‘I didn’t even know it was Sunday that they are playing. So that shows you how much attention I’ve paid to it! ‘But one of them is going to drop points, so we’ll see who it is on Sunday.’ Rangers saw off the direct challenge of Hibs with last month’s 4-2 Ibrox win over the Easter Road side, breaking a run of poor form by Mark Warburton’s men, who have now won three matches on the bounce and welcome Livingston to Govan this afternoon. Halliday said of the mid-season stutter: ‘It was a blip but I do stress that it was a little blip. ‘I think it was made more of a big deal purely because of how well Hibs and Falkirk were doing. ‘They just weren’t dropping points at all and were not letting up on us. ‘Don’t get me wrong, we shouldn’t have dropped points at home to Morton and away to Livingston. ‘But, to be honest, in three games against them I think Livingston have been one of the toughest opponents we’ve faced this season — regardless of them being second bottom. ‘We’ve played them three times and haven’t played well, nowhere near our standards. ‘So this is a game where we know we need to be on the ball. We need to do what we do every day in training, no slips, a top performance.’
