Accuser’s Savile claims
THE only police witness to the Westminster ‘paedophile ring’ previously presented himself as a Jimmy Savile victim under a different name, it emerged yesterday.
He is known today as ‘Nick’, a man whose bombshell claims against VIPs, including falsely accusing D-Day veteran Lord Bramall, have rocked the Establishment.
But he was ‘Stephen’ when he alleged he had been abused by the late DJ. It is unclear whether police realised the accounts were from the same man, and if so when.
The Sun reported yesterday that Nick was going through a mid-life crisis when he began accusing VIPs. He allegedly lost his job and his wife just before going to police with his allegations. The latest revelations add to growing doubts about the credibility of Nick, whose supporters include Labour deputy leader Tom Watson.
The Sunday Times said the accuser appeared on obscure TV station the Crime and Investigation Channel in August 2014 to say he was a victim of Savile. Stephen, as he was then known, was interviewed in silhouette for a documentary called Crimes That Shook Britain: Jimmy Savile. He made no mention of Westminster VIPs.
It is unclear when the documentary was recorded. But three months after its broadcast, he was telling the BBC lurid claims of paedophile rape and murder in Westminster, as Nick. He pointed the finger at nine members of the Establishment including MPs and former MI5 and MI6 chiefs.
In both sets of stories, the accounts he gave were almost identical, describing how he was handed over to a child abuse gang by his father. The first time he told it, he said Savile ‘enjoyed seeing pain inflicted’ and was ‘just evil’.
When he gave the Westminster stories, it was a Tory MP who ‘liked to inflict pain’, and it was former minister Lord Brittan who was ‘as close to evil as a human being could get’.
Police have not been able to find any evidence to support Nick’s allegations.
