Horror at the Hydro as stunt goes wrong
THIS is the shocking moment a breathtaking stunt went wrong during a motorcycle display.
Two men ended up in hospital when a backflip failed as the US Nitro Circus team performed at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro on Thursday night as part of the team’s European tour.
One unnamed man will require surgery for a broken jaw while the other suffered bruises.
At first it was reported the two injured men were volunteers from the audience but yesterday Glasgow City Council confirmed that no audience members were involved, suggesting the injured pair were team members. Nitro Circus declined to comment on this.
Following the incident, around 8.40pm, the injured men were taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The two others were unharmed.
A spokesman for Nitro Circus said: ‘Two passengers who sustained injuries during a four-person motorbike backflip attempt were transported to a nearby hospital. Nitro Circus considers health and safety its top priority and has expert medical staff on site in the event of an emergency.’
A spokesman for the SSE Hydro said it was not within its jurisdiction to comment on the incident, while the Health and Safety Executive said the matter had been passed on to Glasgow City Council.
A council spokesman said: ‘ Our environmental health officers are investigating the incident.’
