A prince? But where’s your crown, Harry?

- By Rebecca English Royal Correspondent

HUDDLED together against the cold, the excited children of Weeton Primary School waited to meet a prince.

So when a young man in casual trousers and waterproof jacket turned up, they were decidedly underwhelmed.

An amused Prince Harry found himself bombarded with questions by the youngsters as he visited flood-affected areas in Lancashire yesterday.

Perhaps in an attempt to check that this was the royalty they’d been promised, one ten-year-old asked how much money he had – but a laughing Harry, 31, declined to answer.

Seven-year-old Holly said afterwards that she ‘thought he wasn’t a prince because he didn’t have his crown’.

‘I thought he would

be dressed posh’

And t en- year- ol d Kian added: ‘I thought he would be dressed posh in a tuxedo.’

Many children at the school have parents in the 2nd Battalion The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, which helped flood-ravaged communities across the North in December. And former soldier Harry was keen to hear the youngsters’ perspective on the crisis.

Serena, 11, whose f ather was deployed, said it was ‘ sad’ with him away at Christmas but added: ‘I knew he was going to places and saving people, I was very proud of him.’

Older residents praised Harry’s visit, saying that he was ‘bringing attention back’ to the floods’ devastating impact.
