My self-tan turned me into princess from Shrek!

- Daily Mail Reporter

WHEN Kirsty Reeves carefully applied a layer of fake tan to her face, she was aiming for the glamorous glow of a Hollywood star.

But Princess Fiona from Shrek was not the star she had in mind.

Miss Reeves, 27, turned a bright shade of green after covering her face with expensive St Tropez tanning mousse, which she believes came from a damaged bottle.

She then spent three days hiding her embarrassment indoors after her father pointed out the colour’s similarity with the ogre from the 2001 animated movie.

‘I was absolutely mortified,’ said the call centre worker from West Bergholt, Essex. ‘I didn’t go out, I didn’t even go to the shops.

‘I’m on a zero hours contract but didn’t go to work.’ Miss Reeves applied the St Tropez dark tanning mousse after asking her boyfriend Ty Gillard to buy her a bottle from Boots. She had used the £ 33 product before, so was confident she would not have an unusual reaction.

However 45 minutes after putting it on, she realised that the usual green undertone was becoming unnaturally bright. She then tried to remove the product with a makeup wipe – to no avail.

Confused over what had gone wrong, she sent a picture to a beauty therapist friend – who suggested that air had somehow entered the can. She also contacted the maker of the mousse. ‘The manufacturer said that when you put the product with oxygen it changes colour,’ she added. ‘They said that more than likely what’s happened is that it hasn’t been stored properly.’

The colour wore off after three days, and Boots offered Miss Reeves a £15 voucher after she made a complaint.

A spokesman said: ‘The quality of products we sell is of utmost importance and we will investigate this with the supplier.’

A spokesman for PZ Cussons, the firm behind the St Tropez brand, said they ‘take this incident very seriously’ and are investigating.
