A guardian angel was behind my Bake Off win

- By Jemma Buckley Showbusiness Reporter

SHe rose to success on the Great British Bake Off and now has a lucrative cookery career.

According to Nadiya Hussain, however, her triumph may be down to a guardian angel.

Despite saying she has always been ‘sceptical’ about the phenomenon, she believes someone was looking over her during a particularly testing week on the BBC1 competition last year.

The 31- year- old, a practising Muslim, said she thought she was about to be booted off the show but while collecting her thoughts by the river near the Bake Off tent, a petal appeared out of nowhere and restored her run of good luck.

The mother- of- three told ITV’s Loose Women yesterday: ‘When I was in the Bake Off tent I was having a really down week, a really bad week. I thought, “That’s it, I’m out this week”. I was just walking past the river, there were only trees, and out of nowhere this petal from the sky just dropped in front of me.

‘There were no flowers anywhere, so I don’t know where this petal came from. I picked it up and I took a picture of it. I had a great week that week and I felt really great.

‘It felt to me like a sign, even though I don’t think I believe in these things. I’m quite sceptical with things like that, they almost seem superstitious. I’m quite religious and I believe in God but when something happens to you, you kind of almost believe it.’
