Yours for £155,000, Bond’s new supercar

- From Ray Massey Motoring Editor in Geneva

IF you fancy owning a car like the one James Bond drove in last year’s movie Spectre, now you can – as long as you have £154,900 to spare. Aston Martin yesterday unveiled its latest supercar, the 200mph DB11.

It follows on from the limited edition DB10 driven by Daniel Craig as Bond in Spectre. Only ten of those were made, all for the movie, and none went on sale.

Aston Martin claimed t he British-built DB11, which will be delivered to its first buyers at the end of this year, was the most significant new model it has launched in its history. Yesterday it s hared t he Aston Martin stand at the Geneva Motor Show with a classic DB5 similar to t hat driven by Sean Connery in 1964’s Goldfinger.

The DB11 two-door sports tourer has space for all the family, with more head and leg room in the rear and mounting points for two child seats.

It is powered by a 5.2-litre twinturbocharged V12 engine linked to an eight-speed automatic gear-box that produces 600 brake- horsepower – or about the same as six Ford Fiestas. It will accelerate from rest to 62mph in 3.9 seconds.

Production of the DB11 at Aston Martin’s Gaydon factory in Warwickshire is part of a £200million investment announced by the firm last week that will create thousands of jobs.

This included confirmation that it had chosen a 90-acre site at St Athan in Wales to hand-build a new DBX model aimed at women.

Unveiling the DB11, Aston Martin chief executive Andy Palmer said: ‘We think it will be as iconic as James Bond’s DB5.’ The company plans to introduce a new model every nine months, with an all-electric car also planned. Dr Palmer added: ‘We have worked tirelessly to ensure the DB11 combines exceptional design with the latest technology throughout. This is not only the most important car that Aston Martin has launched in recent history, but also in its 103year existence.’

About a third of the 80,000 Aston Martins ever built carry the ‘DB’ initials after the entrepreneur David Brown, who transformed the firm.
