- By Ashlie McAnally

A TEENAGE thug stabbed a classmate four times with a scalpel taken from the school art department.

The 16-year-old attacked his victim, then 15, near the school gates at lunch time after they had fallen out during biology.

In an ‘altercation’, the teenager punched the boy and, a little further along from the school in Glasgow, repeatedly stabbed him.

The injured teenager was taken back to school and given first aid before being taken to hospital. Each of the wounds on the victim’s chest, back, arm and elbow were between 0.2in and 0.4in.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court, the accused, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to assault to injury and danger of life on March 2, 2015.

Procurator fiscal depute Lindsay Docherty said: ‘When walking out for lunch with his friends at approximately 1.15pm, the complainer saw the accused on the street outside the school. There was an altercation and the accused punched him.

‘About a minute down the street there was a second altercation during which the accused brought a craft knife out of his pocket and struck the complainer with it.

‘ The complainer t hrew punches and was repeatedly struck by the accused about his body with the craft knife four times.’

Miss Docherty added that the injuries had a ‘ potential danger to life’ although those received were not ultimately life threatening.

Solicitor advocate Billy Lavelle said in mitigation that his client claimed to have been set upon by the victim and others outside school. Sheriff Aisha Anwar adjourned the case until later this month.
