Hindley in her ‘ killing gloves’

- By Chris Brooke c.brooke@dailymail.co.uk

SITTING on a wall staring into space, this is Myra Hindley wearing the black gloves she is believed to have worn during the Moors murders.

The night-time photo of Hindley in her ‘killing gloves’ could help in the search for the missing body of one of her victims.

Previously unseen, it was found by researcher Darren Rae, who is writing a book about the search for 12year-old Keith Bennett’s body.

He believes the picture was taken by Hindley’s partner-in- crime Ian Brady and could be a sick memento of Keith’s murder.

Hindley’s coat is dirty and she is said to have told police she wore gloves when she took part in a killing or burying a body.

Her gloves also played another role in her crimes, as she used the excuse of losing one to entice child victims into Brady’s car.

Mr Rae has reportedly tracked down the location of the picture and believes it could be important in finding Keith – the third of five known victims of the Moors murderers.

‘Why would you be taking a picture of someone sat on a wall in the dead of night?’ he said. ‘I believe it can only mean one thing – a murder or a burial in ash allow grave. It is a possibility that the victim could have been Keith.’

He told The People: ‘There is no other example of a night photo of them. I’ve analysed the picture with… detectives and forensic analysts. There is mud and dirt on her coat and she’s wearing gloves. It has been said she tended to wear gloves when burying a victim or committing a murder.’

Mr Rae, believes the photo was taken in 1964, the year Keith was snatched. He has pinpointed three ‘hot spots’ in a small area where his remains could be.

He has kept them secret but is determined to find Keith’s body, ending the grim quest that the boy’s mother Winnie was unable to complete before she died in 2012.

He said recently: ‘I visited the Moors with Winnie and I’d like to do it for her. It is a sad and tragic case, but I know I am very close to solving it.’

Mr Rae has shared his information with the police, but the evidence is said to be too imprecise to warrant further official searches. He is seeking funds and helpers for another search of the Moors.

Brady and Hindley sexually tortured and killed five children, three of whose bodies were found on Saddleworth Moor near Manchester.

Hindley died in prison in 2002 aged 60. Brady has been held in the high-security Ashworth Hospital since 1985.
