Arrest after sex trafficking raid by police
A ROMANIAN-organised criminal network allegedly involved in human trafficking has been dismantled in Glasgow.
Four houses in the city were raided and a 29-year-old man was arrested in connection with brothel keeping during the largescale crackdown last Friday.
Another man, aged 35, will be the subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal.
The organised criminal network is accused of trafficking Romanian victims for exploitation in the sex market in Scotland.
Eight potential victims of trafficking were rescued in the operation.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: ‘As part of an ongoing investigation into human trafficking and serious and organised crime, Police Scotland, supported by a number of partner organisations, as well as Romanian police and Europol, visited four properties in the Glasgow area.’
Romanian authorities provided police with officers and a prosecutor while Europol provided analytical support.
Cash, mobile phones and other valuable items were seized from the suspects.
A Europol spokesman said: ‘This operation is the result of a large-scale investigation, run by the United Kingdom and Romanian law enforcement authorities, to dismantle an organised crime group involved in trafficking in human beings for the purpose of sexual exploitation.’
