It’s Tim, set and match for Andy

- By Ross Parker

IT is the UK’s most bitter sporting rivalry, whether it is over football, rugby – or even tennis.

And now England and Scotland are again set to lock horns on the court, as two all-time greats go head-to-head in Glasgow.

In an event that is sure to excite every tennis fan in Britain, the world number two, Andy Murray, has convinced his old rival and former British number one, Tim Henman, to come out of retirement to do battle once more.

Henman carried the flag for British tennis for years, managing to reach four Wimbledon semi-finals during his career but just as his playing days wound to a close, the Scots star emerged to take his mantle as UK number one.

Since then, Murray has dominated British tennis winning two Grand Slam majors, including the 2013 Wimbledon Men’s Singles.

The pair will meet once again as part of a new annual charity event – Andy Murray Live.

The series of exhibition matches will raise money for Unicef, which provides food, clean water and health care for children around the world, and for Young People’s Futures, a Glasgowbased charity that works with troubled youngsters.

The fundraiser, which has been set up by Murray, will be held at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow on September 21.

Murray, 28, said: ‘It’s great to be returning home to Scotland and playing in the city of Glasgow.

‘I travel the world playing tennis and unfortunately I don’t spend as much time as I would like to at home.

‘I owe it to my fans who have supported me throughout the years and what better way than to play in front of them at the SSE Hydro.’

As well as playing each other head-tohead, Murray will team up with his brother Jamie to take on Henman and French star Gael Monfils in doubles.

The former Wimbledon champion added: ‘I’m looking forward to bringing top-level tennis to Glasgow on an annual basis and making this event bigger and better every year.

‘It will be an incredible evening of high-quality tennis, entertainment, special guests and, of course, we are hoping it raises a huge amount of money.’

Tickets can be bought on the SSE Hydro website, priced from £20.

Henman will be out for revenge after the pair met four times on court before he retired in 2007, with Murray winning three of the matches.
