MISSING . . .

-

THE DAILY MAIL offers readers a unique opportunity to re-establish contact with long-lost relatives and friends. Each week, MONICA PORTER features the story of someone trying to find a missing loved one, as well as a tale of people reunited. This column is produced in conjunction with the voluntary tracing service, Searching For A Memory, run by Gill and John Whitley.

BOB Hall writes: ‘I would like to enlist your help in my search for members of the 1959 Rugby First XV of Northgate Grammar School for Boys, Ipswich.

‘I have located and am in touch with all but eight. Sadly, the headmaster and rugby coach seated either side of me in the photo are dead.

The missing are: Barry Williams (winger), Graeme Massey (centre, who joined the RaF), Dave Berry (prop), Norman Gammer (went to Reading University).

‘Then there were John Hobbs (forward), Pete Bradley (wingforward, thought to be a jeweller living in the Caribbean), Colin lewis (hooker) and Brian Heritage (full-back who studied for the Non-Conformist Church and is thought to be in the probation service).

‘While by no means invincible we enjoyed some good wins over other schools in the region but, as with so many other grammar schools, Northgate ceased to exist in 1976 and has no old Boys association through which to trace members.

‘Those we have traced have been found through personal contacts, publicity and the internet.

‘The reunited members of the First XV of 1959 have greatly enjoyed meeting again and another reunion is planned for July 12 in the Ipswich area.

‘We hope our missing teammates can join us for some nostalgia, laughs and catching up.’
