Don’t be foxed by Nationalists
IF ANYTHING demonstrates the need for a free and robust Press, it might just be this week’s sorry scandal involving two married Nationalist MPs, a young political journalist and some serious questions over the use of expenses.
While the First Minister might have blustered in defence of Angus MacNeil and Stewart Hosie that ‘even politicians have a right to privacy’, the evidence proves otherwise. Having a free Press is an essential part of a democracy, and most people would say that cosseting your mistress in a hotel room paid for by the taxpayer is a tale worthy of closer scrutiny.
Further evidence that when it comes to political regulation of the Press, the foxes should not be running the chicken coop.
