Last train to chartsville! New album by Monkees
FIFTY years have passed since their anarchic TV show launched their careers.
And to celebrate the anniversary, The Monkees are back with a new album and tour. Now in their seventies, two of the three surviving members – Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork – have kicked off the tour in Florida.
The album, Good Times!, is their first since 1996. Released on Friday, it includes new tunes written by famous fans such as Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher.
Tork, 74, said: ‘It’s stunning to be part of a project that 50 years later is having a significant resurgence.’ The Monkees were put together for a 1966 TV series about a fictional band, but their songs – including I’m A Believer, Last Train To Clarksville and Daydream Believer – shot to the top of the charts. They went on to sell 75million records.
Lead singer Davy Jones died in 2012. Fourth member Michael Nesmith is writing a book and won’t join the tour.
