Rodgers will have to reshape a squad that has excessive numbers in some positions, notably the attacking midfield roles, but a dearth of viable competition elsewhere. He is expected to be given a transfer budget in the region of £15million, including fees and wages. It goes without saying that he will operate in a different market to his time at Liverpool, when the likes of Adam Lallana, Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke were signed in deals costing in excess of £20million. But Rodgers has leeway to make some intriguing additions. And his high-profile presence could also persuade some players previously sniffy about switching to Scotland.
