Brutal attack on 84-year-old

- By David Meikle

AN 84-YEAR-OLD man was brutally attacked and robbed by two men as he got off a bus in broad daylight.

William Todd was left with horrific facial injuries after he was set upon as he walked home early on Saturday evening.

Mr Todd’s wife of more than 60 years, Louise, said: ‘I am just getting over it. His face is a complete mess. He doesn’t remember much but he said he felt something coming at him and that was it. It has made us feel unsafe.’

The father of seven, who is also a grandfather of seven, was taken to the Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he was treated for facial injuries. Mr Todd was targeted close to Govan’s Salvation Army Hall in Golspie Street at around 5.30pm. He has been a regular at The Red Lion bar in Kinning Park’s Paisley Road West since it first opened around 27 years ago, and had been at the bar before he was attacked.

Eileen Wilson, the manageress, said: ‘He is a great wee man and this could affect him a long time. I am disgusted by what happened, and someone somewhere must have seen something.’

A Just Giving page has been set up to raise money for Mr Todd following the attack, and so far more than £1,000 has been raised for the pensioner.

Those behind the page shared a photograph of his injuries and wrote: ‘Willie is a gentleman who has a heart condition and who thankfully survived the shock and pain of a severe assault.

‘I am asking the good people who read this to help with anything they can to enable Willie to go some way to restore his faith in the human race.’

Police Scotland would like to speak to a man, described as white, between 35 and 40, with short dark hair and glasses, who was seen getting off the bus after Mr Todd.
