BEST OF THE REST
THE BBC’s sitcom season, which will feature remakes of classics including Are You Being Served? and Porridge, marks 60 years of situation comedy since the pioneering Hancock’s Half Hour. It begins in July, with a live episode of Brendan O’Carroll’s Mrs Brown’s Boys. Sky 1 already has the return of Agatha Raisin, starring Ashley Jensen (pictured below) in eight comic murder mysteries, with the blonde sleuth investigating the death of a local witch, the killing of a flirtatious young vet and other deadly conundrums. The channel is also launching Hooten & The Lady, with American actor Michael Landes and Ophelia LovLoibvoibnodnd from W1A as art experts searching for antique treasures. Competitors on Stripped — Channel 4’s outrageous game show which begins soon — are required to hand over everything they own for 30 days. Each day they can ask for just one item to be returned. Sky Living launches Shades Of Blue in July, with Jennifer Lopez as Harlee Santos, a New York detective and single mother, and Goodfellas’ Ray Liotta as her rule-breaking boss. The Proms, throughout July, August and September on the BBC, include a tribute to David Bowie. Stargaze, a collective of musicians based in Berlin and conducted by Andre de Ridder, will reinterpret his music at the Albert Hall. I’d recommend watching it on TV rather than going along hoping for a £10 ticket — they are already being resold by touts for up to £200.
