I’m desperate for a lover says Diane Keaton, 70
SHE counts Hollywood co-stars Warren Beatty, Al Pacino and Woody Allen among her former lovers.
But after a colourful private life, Diane Keaton admits that now, at the age of 70, she has been left ‘sexually frustrated’.
The actress has never been married – something she does not regret. But she spoke frankly about the drawbacks of being single during an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres talk show in the US. The conversation turned to her personal life after she revealed she has a habit of chewing ice.
When host Miss DeGeneres suggested this can be a sign a person is sexually frustrated, Miss Keaton replied, ‘I am sexually frustrated’, adding: ‘Do you know what that feels like? I know what it feels like and it’s not good.’ The Oscar-winning actress went on to discuss her desire to find a new lover, to which Miss DeGeneres said: ‘You’ve had a rich, full life. You’ve had many lovers!’
‘Those were the days when I wasn’t sexually frustrated,’ Miss Keaton said. ‘Who’s going to be asking me to be their lover? Am I gonna have some dates?’
The pair then discussed potential suitors – and age was clearly not a barrier. When Miss DeGeneres, who married actress Portia de Rossi in 2008, showed her photos of actor Jared Leto, 44, and 22-year-old singer Justin Bieber, Miss Keaton said: ‘I don’t like to judge – I’ll take them both.
‘Each man has something special about him. When I look at Justin, I feel a special feeling for him. For example, that’s a nice body and he’s displaying it.’ She added that she liked Leto’s nose. She also swooned over Keanu Reeves, 51, and Jude Law, 43 – but her dream man seemed to be 28-year-old actor Zac Efron, about whom she said: ‘Oh that’s the one – wow!’
She also revealed that while sparks flew on screen with her Something’s Gotta Give co-star Jack Nicholson, there was no chemistry once the cameras stopped rolling. Miss Keaton, who won her best actress Oscar for her role in 1977’s Annie Hall, began dating Woody Allen after auditioning for his production of Play It Again, Sam, in 1968. They split after a few years, and she started dating Warren Beatty in the late 1970s. She later had an on-off relationship with Al Pacino, whom she met on the set of The Godfather. She adopted two children, a daughter in 1996 and a son in 2001. She once said in an interview: ‘I don’t think that because I’m not married it’s made my life any less. That old maid myth is garbage.’
