Old chum who helped Dave draft honours list

-

DAVID Cameron’s honours list was last night branded a ‘last gasp of the chumocracy’ after it was confirmed his old university friend and tennis partner Lord Feldman helped draw it up.

Tory sources even claimed the outgoing party chairman went as far as specifically requesting some of the names on the list.

One Tory MP said: ‘It stinks. It really is a last gasp of the chumocracy.’ Despite never holding elected office, Lord Feldman was appointed cochairman of the Conservatives as soon as Mr Cameron became PM in May 010.

Later the same year, he was rewarded with a life peerage, leading one senior Tory to ask: ‘What was it for, other than being Dave’s mate?’

The pair met at Brasenose College, Oxford, and their homes are near each other in fashionable Notting Hill, West London.

In 013, he issued a fierce denial after being accused of calling local Tory members ‘swivel-eyed loons’.

Last night he could not be reached for comment.
