Crumbs! It’s the £1,500 sticky bun

-

COSTING the equivalent of transatlantic flights or a luxurious weekend away, there’s no doubt that spending £1,500 on a ‘cronut’ (a croissant/doughnut hybrid) is recklessly extravagant.

The world’s most expensive pastry was made with a saffron-infused croissant dough and includes Cristal rose champagne ‘caviar’, gold leaf, Tahitian gold vanilla beans and chocolate from Tuscany. Three years ago, when the cronut came into being, people would queue from 5.30am to buy the original buns in Manhattan’s Dominique Ansel Bakery in New York.

It’s safe to say the queues for the £1,500 Luxury Zebra Cro (left) at Dum Dum Donutterie, which has three outlets in London, will be somewhat shorter.
