Pep gets his man as City seal £42m deal for Sane
MANCHESTER City are set to complete the £42million signing of Leroy Sane from Schalke today.
The fee, standing at an initial £37m, is huge for a youngster with just 47 Bundesliga appearances and a player few City fans had heard of just a few months ago. The cost could rise to £42m if all performancerelated clauses kick in.
It is a show of the City hierarchy’s faith in new boss Pep Guardiola, who said of Sane in November: ‘Leroy is a huge talent. I can only congratulate Germany on having a talent like him.’
This deal has taken time - so long, in fact, that Schalke’s sporting director Christian Heidel imposed a deadline of yesterday to thrash out the details. Yet City remained patient and Guardiola has his man.
Sane will become City’s third major summer signing, joining Ilkay Gundogan and Nolito at the Etihad as well as 19year-old Oleksandr Zinchenko.
