Wind farm staff blown away by boy’s honesty

- By Jessica McKay

THEY say that honesty is always the best policy.

And one little lad has certainly taken that mantra to heart – by returning a 10p toy to a gift shop when he realised it hadn’t been paid for.

Little Daniel wrote an adorable note to Whitelee Windfarm Visitor Centre when he realised the small yellow ‘stretchy man’ toy he had taken hadn’t been paid for by his mum.

Staff at the centre, which is run by ScottishPower, are now trying to track down Daniel so they can thank him for returning the trinket.

In a hand-written note, polite Daniel wrote: ‘I was in the shop and picked up the enclosed thinking that my Mum had paid for it.

‘Unfortunately she did not so I have returned the item.’

Daniel did not leave his address with his note, and staff are now trying to track him down.

Ian Parkinson, manager of the visitor centre, said: ‘We’re often contacted by people wishing to find out more about the UK’s biggest wind farm, but it’s not often we receive mail like this. ‘I’d certainly like to praise this very honest young boy for admitting his mistake, and for his sincerity in his actions.

‘It’s heart-warming to think that someone would go to such lengths to return an item of very small value.

‘We don’t have Daniel’s return address to send him our own gesture of thanks, but I do hope he gets in touch or visits us again with his mum.

‘We’d be delighted to see them back at Whitelee.’

The wind farm, which is on Eaglesham Moor on the outskirts of Glasgow, generates enough electricity to power around 300,000 homes.
