Toeing the party line
RE the voting pattern of the SNP (Letters). There is nothing new in this as anyone who enjoys Gilbert and Sullivan’s operettas will tell you.
In HMS Pinafore a song by Sir Joseph Porter describes how he went from being an office boy to ‘ruler of the Queen’s navy’.
He sings at one point: ‘I always voted at my party’s call and NEVER thought of thinking for myself at all’. This was away back in 1878 – is any thing new?
