LEIGH’S DERBY HOPE
Griffiths scan to decide his Old Firm fitness
CELTIC will learn today if goal-threat Leigh Griffiths is out of the Old Firm clash with Rangers.
The top scorer missed training and was pulled out of a press conference yesterday to undergo a scan on a calf injury.
Withdrawn from the Scotland squad ahead of last Sunday’s thumping World Cup qualifying win in Malta, the loss of Griffiths would be a significant blow to the Parkhead club.
Brendan Rodgers admits his side can ‘lay down a marker’ by going four points clear of Mark Warburton’s side at the Premiership
summit. And the Celtic boss believes they can do it without Griffiths if need be — with Moussa Dembele likely to return to the starting line-up. Asked if Griffiths would be fit to face the Ibrox side, Rodgers was non-committal. ‘We’ll see on that. He’s trained this week,’ he said. ‘We had a light day on Thursday and he was just away getting a scan on the injury. ‘We’ll see how that is over the next 24 hours. If he does (miss the game), it will obviously be a big disappointment. ‘But I go back to when I first came in here and I mentioned the possible over-reliance on Leigh. ‘What I needed to get was goals from different people and different areas of the field.
