Ultra-skinny models from Posh’s fashion show claim they tuck into beer and pizza
Oh Victoria, why HAVE you brought back anorexia chic? Sarah Vine writing in the Daily Mail yesterday
THEIR emaciated appearance on the catwalk reignited the controversy over fashion designers’ use of ultra-skinny models.
But the girls who showed off Victoria Beckham’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection at New York Fashion Week have hit back at critics who called them ‘half-starved’ and accused them of promoting ‘anorexia chic’.
The size 4 models used by Mrs Beckham have posted photographs of themselves seemingly enjoying beer, pizza and bacon.
Ondria Hardin, 19, who is understood to have a 24in waist and whose prominent collar bones drew media attention, told Instagram followers that a bottle of Corona beer is her idea of happiness, as she shared a picture of herself drinking while in a yoga pose.
Mica Arganaraz, 26, uploaded pictures of a huge cheesy pizza that also showed off her toned midriff. Iris Landstra, who has a 23½ in waist, proudly displayed a smoked fish, feta and sweet potato salad.
Jessie Bloemendaal, whose make-up during the show gave her a worryingly hollow-eyed look, posted a photograph of her recipe of chicken breasts, wrapped in bacon and stuffed with spinach and cheese, served with roast carrots, adding the caption ‘proud’. However Dr Damian Wood, of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, said the models still represented a ‘highly distorted image of normal human body shape’ that could set a bad example to the young.
Dietician Noor Al Refae, of The Harley Street Cardiology Practice, said some of the meals the models uploaded had a low vitamin and mineral content and a low nutritional value. She added: ‘Like all food pictures posted, it is not clear whether the meals are regularly eaten.’
An apparently defiant Mrs Beckham also posted a photograph on Instagram. It showed her cosying up to one of the models and was jokily captioned ‘Why don’t I look like you?’.
