MAN BEHIND THE BILLIONS

BORN in Belarus, the son of a respected Soviet physicist, Andrey was a star student who studied physics at Lomonosov Moscow State University before graduating from Plekhanov Russian university of Economics, majoring in finance and credit. Andrey, (left, with Aleksandra) became one of the world’s youngest billionaires after founding a number of businesses — culminating in Moscow’s MDM Bank in 1993, which went on to become one of the largest private banks in Russia. He founded Eurochem and made it one of Russia’s biggest fertiliser exporters.

He likes reading, travel and diving — and lavishing his wife with presents, including a diamond tiara made for the late Grace Kelly.
