DO I REALLY NEED?
ThIS week: Kito+ (£99.99 from azoi.com) THIS device fits on to an iPhone and measures your breathing rate, blood oxygen levels and your skin temperature as well as the rhythm and electrical activity of your heart (known as electrocardiography — or ECG) during exercise.
It then sends the data to an app on your phone via Bluetooth, so you can monitor abnormalities and seek advice earlier.
EXPERT VERDICT: ‘While some would find it motivational, the data that Kito+ provides would be quite difficult for a layman to interpret,’ says Dr Mark Wotherspoon, a sports physician at North Hampshire Hospital.
And the data may not even be useful, he argues, as skin temperature is rarely measured.
‘If you need to measure your ECG while exercising, you should only be exercising under medical supervision,’ he adds.
