EXERCISE MYTHS
COMMON mistakes you make while exercising. this week: Refuelling with a sports drink afterwards
MOST sports drinks are laden with sugar. Although they are potentially useful for marathon runners to replace depleted energy stores in the muscles and the liver, for most people they merely replace calories you might have burned.
More importantly, you should drink water, as we sweat out around two pints (one litre) during an hour of exercise. But if you are exercising heavily, a milkshake might be your best bet. Last year, a study by Cornell University, in the U.S., found that low-fat chocolate milkshake contains the perfect combination of fats, proteins and carbohydrates to help muscles recover and to restock glycogen stores.
