Disability doll doesn’t sum up my smiling boy
WHILE I think the idea of disability dolls (Mail) can have a useful place in children’s play, I am disappointed to see the one portraying a baby with Down’s syndrome. this doll looks so sad and, with its tongue sticking out, is not typical of a Down’s child at all, as you can see from my son Andrew’s photo as a toddler (right). All children are different, and with a subject as emotive as Down’s syndrome, I think better care should have been taken in designing this doll. Andrew is now 38 and has grown into a wonderful son, brother, uncle and fiance. And he still has an amazing smile! saLLy PicKThaLL,
