WE Brits are a right bunch of moaners. Whenever someone comes up with a potential fix to a perceived problem we all rush in to rubbish it.
so it is with education. For years employers have moaned about the shortcomings of the education system. step forward theresa May with a possible improvement in the form of grammar schools and we’re all rushing forward with objections, the largest of which is that her proposal is selective.
Well waken up! It’s a selective process when we apply for a job. Getting an interview for that job is part of a selective process. Getting the job is part of a selective process, as is keeping it.
so it is with education. While we all want to see our kids achieving to their potential there has to be a recognition that not all can achieve the same heights. All we can ask is that every child gets the same opportunity and a recognition that not all develop at the same rate or to the same level.
some are faced with the difficult task of determining when a child is suitable for advancing further, but in the workplace someone has to select workers for advancement within the organisation.
Mistakes will be made along the way. some who are capable will be overlooked, some who are selected will fail. We have to live with that.
