CUE CARD RETURNS FOR SHOT AT £1m JACKPOT

- MARCUS TOWNEND

TRAINER Colin Tizzard is lining up top chaser Cue Card for a comeback in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby on October 29, ahead of another shot at the £1million bonus offered to the winner of three of the season’s big steeplechases. The Jockey Club will again hand over the windfall to any team responsible for a chaser who can win the Betfair Chase at Haydock on November 19, King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day and Cheltenham Gold Cup in March. Kauto Star (2006-07) is the only horse to have landed the treble but Cue Card came tantalisingly close last season when, after winning the first two legs, he crashed out of the Gold Cup late on. Tizzard, also preparing his World Hurdle winner Thistlecrack for a shot at chasing, said: ‘Cue Card will have exactly the same campaign as last year. The bonus would be fantastic if it happened.’ The Jockey Club will be hoping the £1m jackpot sways Ireland’s dominant jumps trainer Willie Mullins to have his first runner in the Betfair Chase.
