Girl, 2, bitten in dog attack

-

A TWO-year-old girl has been taken to hospital with a serious facial injury after being attacked by a dog on a beach.

The toddler was on Troon beach in Ayrshire with her grandmother on Saturday morning when the family dog was approached by another dog off its lead.

The roaming dog, whose owner was not nearby, then bit the child on her face, inflicting the serious wound. The girl’s grandmother fought the animal off.

Police said the girl was taken to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where staff described her condition as ‘stable’.

The dog is described as being possibly a black Labrador cross, which was groomed and appeared well looked-after.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
