Bridget Jones jilted in the US

-

HER over-sized knickers and disastrous lovelife made Bridget Jones an instant hit with British film audiences.

But the latest tale of her romantic mishaps in Bridget Jones’s Baby has notched up limited success across the Atlantic.

Opening last weekend, it took £6.2million, reaching third place in this week’s US box office chart.

Sully, the latest from Tom Hanks, is top with £17million and the remake of 90s horror Blair Witch is second on £7.4million.

At home, the portrayal of the hapless heroine by Renee Zellweger (pictured) made £8.4million in its first weekend.

Its lacklustre US showing follows in the footsteps of Bridget Jones’s Diary and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.
