Newlywed teacher’s w ife reveals he slept with pupil aged 17 in their bed

- By Ben Wilkinson

A TEACHER has been struck off after his new wife exposed his affair with a 17-yearold pupil.

Richard Shore, 30, confessed to having sex with the teenage girl, in a heated row with bride Cerys at their home.

But BBC executive Mrs Shore got her revenge when she gave evidence against her cheating husband at a disciplinary hearing.

The 28-year-old revealed that her husband had admitted sex with the sixth-former after striking up a romance on a school trip to the US.

The computer science teacher, who had denied having sex with the girl when questioned by police, has now lost his career as a result of his wife’s testimony.

The affair began when the teacher and his pupil went jogging together on the £700 trip from Radyr Comprehensive School in Cardiff, to California.

The hearing was told that Mr Shore later took the girl to his home ‘five or six’ times while his wife was at work. He also had sex with the pupil at her mother’s home.

Carys Williams, presenting the Education Workforce Council’s case against Mr Shore, told the hearing his behaviour was ‘unacceptable’.

She said: ‘When they returned from the trip to California their contact escalated by way of texts and it led to a full romantic and intimate relationship.

‘It was clearly an inappropriate relationship and it is clear that the actions of Mr Shore were sexually motivated. His conduct constituted unacceptable professional conduct.’

To try to hide the five-month affair, the teacher used the code name Chris in his messages to the girl, known only as Learner A.

Miss Williams told the hearing Mr Shore’s wife had made a statement to investigators about how she confronted him. ‘She said her husband had confessed he had had sex with the girl,’ Miss Williams added. ‘She said their marriage had been in difficulties.’

The BBC marketing executive and Mr Shore lived in a waterside apartment in Cardiff Bay, where he took the pupil.

When the teacher was arrested and interviewed by police, he admitted to officers that he had invited the schoolgirl into his home five or six times and allowed her to use his shower.

But the disciplinary hearing in Cardiff was told that he denied having sex and the Crown Prosecution Service decided to take no further action. After news of the affair broke, Mr Shore was suspended by the school, and he later resigned. His marriage lasted only a year.

Fellow IT teacher Richard Edmunds said his suspicions were raised about Mr Shore and the schoolgirl when they went jogging on their own during the trip to the US in October 2014.

Mr Edmunds also revealed that Mr Shore had swapped seats on the plane journey home so he could sit in the same row as the girl.

Social worker Theresa Derbeyshire told the hearing that the pupil had told her she was in love with Mr Shore – even though she knew the teacher was married.

‘They became friends on the school trip to California and it became sexual when they returned to Cardiff,’ the social worker said. ‘The girl said sex took place at his house and her mother’s house. The relationship was physical and sexual.’

Mr Shore did not attend the hearing and instead sent an email to say he was out of the country.

He was found to be unfit to practise because his actions were ‘sexually motivated’.

The Fitness To Practise Committee removed Mr Shore from the teaching register indefinitely and ruled that he could not re-apply for five years. The disgraced teacher has the right to appeal within 28 days. After the hearing, his brother Adam Shore, a lecturer at Swansea University, said: ‘I believe he was last in the Middle East and has cut off links with people in the UK. It is a matter for him.’
