Jolie’s lookalike ‘devastated’ over claims of affair

- By Arthur Martin

FRENCH actress Marion Cotillard was said to ‘absolutely devastated’ last night by claims that she had an affair with Brad Pitt on a film set.

Unconfirmed reports in America suggest Angelina Jolie filed for divorce because she discovered her husband was cheating on her with his co-star – who looks remarkably like his wife.

Miss Jolie is said to have hired a private investigator who claimed that Pitt was ‘fooling around’ with Miss Cotillard while filming Allied, a romantic Second World War thriller.

His alleged affair with the 40-year-old French star while on location in London was said to be the ‘final straw’ for Miss Jolie, according to the New York Post’s celebrity column Page Six.

But Miss Cotillard, who is married to actor Guillaume Canet, is said to be ‘hugely shocked’ by the allegations.

Last night a source close to the couple, who have a five-year-old son, Marcel, said: ‘Marion and Guillaume are blissfully happy, and these kind of claims are not what Marion wants to be hearing.

‘She’s said that all she wants to do is to enjoy some quality time with Guillaume and their boy.

‘Claims that she’s now cheating on Guillaume with Brad will leave her

‘She will be devastated’

absolutely devastated. This doesn’t sound like her at all.’

Miss Cotillard, who won an Oscar for her portrayal of French cabaret singer Edith Piaf in the 2007 movie La Vie en Rose, started dating Canet, 43, that year.

‘She values time with her family and wants to enjoy more of it,’ said the source. ‘All this fuss will be a huge shock to her.’

Miss Cotillard, who turns 41 at the end of the month, has been busy working on four films this year, but has indicated in interviews that she wants to cut down her workload.

The multi-millionaire is one of the most successful actresses in French movie history and has starred in numerous Hollywood blockbusters, including The Dark Knight Rises, Contagion, Public Enemies and Inception.

In Allied, she plays French Resistance fighter Marianne Beausejour who meets intelligence officer Max Vatan – played by Pitt – on a mission behind enemy lines during the Second World War.

The storyline then moves to London where the couple reunite – but soon find their relationship threatened by the unpredictability of war.

Filming began in London in February and in May scenes were shot in Gran Canaria.

The film will be released in November.

Yesterday Page Six claimed that Pitt was ‘partying like a single guy on a mission’ while on location in London.

A source said: ‘[Jolie] hired a private eye because she felt that he may be fooling around with her on the set.

‘He’s in the throes of some midlife crisis, and Angie is fed up.’

Miss Cotillard’s first showbiz relationship was with actor Julien Rassam in the late 1990s.

He became a paraplegic after falling from the third floor of a Paris hotel in 2000. He committed suicide two years later. She dated another actor Stephan Guerin-Tillie until 2005 and then French singer Mathieu Blanc-Francard for two years.
