Duran Duran star ex’s wrist broken by Pokemon fan
She was once the lover of Duran Duran keyboard player Nick Rhodes, and went on to portray their breakup by daubing her naked body in oil paints and rolling around on canvas.
Now Love Actually actress-turnedartist Meredith Ostrom, right, has been brought down to earth again after becoming the latest victim of Pokemon Go, the free mobile phone app using real-world locations to encourage players to hunt and capture digital creatures.
The 39-year-old was walking near Beauchamp Place in Knightsbridge when a Pokeman Go player collided with her, causing her to stumble and break her wrist.
‘I was trying to wave down a taxi to meet a friend for dinner,’ she says.
‘I heard a blood-curdling scream, “Pokemon!” as I felt a heavy push on my left side from a running, crazed woman. I also didn’t see a piece of protruding scaffolding and toppled over.
‘I tried to break my fall with my right arm and my wrist broke in that fall. I didn’t catch the Pokemon player as they ran off.
‘All I saw was a pair of jeans and a red T-shirt and dark hair. It was both shocking and surreal.
‘I was full of scrapes and bruises. I had such an adrenalin rush from my body being in complete shock that I didn’t realise my aching wrist was fractured immediately. I whimpered in pain all night.’
Ostrom went to her GP who referred her to the London Orthopaedic Clinic for treatment.
hundreds of incidents involving people playing Pokemon Go were recorded by police after the game was launched this summer — including thefts, trespass, assaults and driving offences.
