Scots village is the greenest
A PERTHSHIRE village has been included in a list of the 100 ‘greenest destinations’ in the world.
Comrie is the only Scottish tourist destination to make it into the ‘Sustainable Destinations’ list compiled by the Green Destinations organisation, based on its commitment to reducing waste and reusing energy.
The international list includes only four sites in the UK, the others being County Down and Lough Neagh in Northern Ireland, and The Broads National Park in East Anglia.
Comrie Croft, an ‘eco-camping’ site, was selected as an example of good sustainable practice in the village, with a 99 per cent recycling rate and 100 per cent use of alternative energy sources.
Green Destinations said: ‘Sustainability is a very serious topic in Comrie and a good care of both environment and local community is provided. Socially responsible residents are active in social, eco and nature protection projects.’
