Boy, 7, left in hotel as mum went partying

A BRITISH tourist in Majorca narrowly escaped being jailed after leaving her seven-year-old son alone in their hotel room as she went out partying.

Staff at the four-star Hotel Canarios Park alerted police after the boy was discovered crying when he woke up to find himself alone.

A police search failed to find the mother, 25, but officers arrested her when she returned at breakfast time on Monday morning.

At a court hearing in Palma yesterday, the woman, who has not been named, was given a suspended prison sentence, while her son is still being cared for by local authority officials.

She was last night waiting to be told if she can fly back to the UK with her son.

A police spokesman said: ‘Guests alerted receptionists that a boy was crying and alone. The boy told police he was on holiday with his mum in Majorca and that he had woken up alone in their hotel room. He also said it wasn’t the first time he had been left alone.’

In July, police in Benidorm arrested a British woman who abandoned her nine-year-old twins while she went out drinking.
