US falls for our wellies
AMERICANS snapping up trendy wellie boots have helped footwear maker Hunter Boot post strong full-year figures.
The firm, founded in 1856, saw strong sales growth in North America – up 33pc – which contributed to a 19pc rise in group sales to £113.7m in 2015. Operating profit fell to £14.1m from £15.6m in line with expectations.
During the year it traded from its new flagship London shop and opened a new store in Bicester Village.
The privately-owned firm invested in a new IT system and revamped its warehouse. Chief executive Vincent Wauters has launched new styles in footwear and expanded into accessories.
A second flagship store, in Tokyo, opened in March and initial sales have been positive.
