Heathrow cost pledge
HEATHROW increased the pressure on rival Gatwick in the battle for an extra runway by promising price cuts to airlines if it is given permission to expand.
Britain’s largest airport hopes domestic routes will now become viable as it offers airlines a £10 discount for every passenger flying to a UK destination.
The airport could also introduce new destinations such as Liverpool and Newquay and, if it was allowed to run more flights, it would add an extra £1.5bn to the economy between 2021 and opening of a third runway in 2025.
Separately, Treasury Committee chairman Andrew Tyrie, seeking answers from Chancellor Philip Hammond about any expansion said it was ‘unacceptable’ no information was forthcoming.
