Hailing our Rio stars
SCOTLAND’S Olympic and Paralympic stars received a hero’s welcome in Edinburgh yesterday. The athletes who shone in Rio this summer attended an event at Oriam, the new sports performance centre at Heriot-Watt University, where young people were given the opportunity to try Olympic sports. That was followed by a public celebration in the capital’s Festival Square. Those in attendance included wheelchair tennis star Gordon Reid (front row, left), who won gold in singles and silver in doubles, as well as goldmedal winning cyclists Callum Skinner and Katie Archibald. Rio 2016 was Scotland’s most successful overseas Olympic Games, with Scottish stars securing 13 medals — four gold, seven silver and two bronze.
