Pet dog attacks couple

-

A COUPLE were taken to hospital with serious injuries after being attacked by their own dog.

The man and woman were treated for face, arm and leg injuries following the incident in their flat on Aberdeen’s Jute Street.

Police were called to the property after receiving reports of an out of control animal at about 11.30pm on Tuesday.

Officers said the bull mastiff, a breed originally developed by 19th-century gamekeepers to guard estates, died on the same night, although no further details were available.

Police Scotland Sergeant Lynne Kortland said: ‘Police were called to reports of the couple’s pet being out of control. A man and a woman were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment in relation to dog bites. The dog died during the incident. No one else was involved.’

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: ‘They are both in a stable condition. Their injuries were serious but not life-threatening.’
